Exploring Greenville’s outdoor attractions

Greenville packs in so many breathtaking natural landscapes waiting to be explored. Start with Falls Park on the Reedy, a 32-acre green space in the heart of downtown Greenville. The best views are from the Liberty Bridge, the iconic pedestrian suspension bridge featured in multiple brochures and Greenville websites. It’s easy to see why, but the pictures don’t fully capture the panoramic views of the stunning Reedy River and the cascading waterfalls below. The park also has lush gardens, scenic trails, and picnic spots. Greenville often uses the grounds to stage seasonal festivals and events.

Then there’s the Swamp Rabbit Trail, a 23-mile multi-use greenway winding its way through Greenville. Rent a bike from one of the many bike-sharing stations along the trail and embark on a memorable journey through Greenville’s charming neighborhoods and nearby quaint towns. It links to the city’s largest park, Cleveland Park, home to the Greenville Zoo.

To truly immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Upstate, pick from three nearby state parks: Paris Mountain, Jones Gap, and Caesars Head. These state parks pack stunning hiking trails, fresh, clear lakes for swimming or kayaking, and breathtaking vistas. Go on the hunt for towering waterfalls, or fish for mountain trout on the state’s first wild and scenic river, the Saluda. Join the annual “Hawk Watch” to spot migrating species during the fall. Table Rock has some gorgeous views, but it’s also one of the hardest trails around.

Adrenaline junkies will get their heart racing at Treetop Quest in Greenville with its suspended obstacles and ziplines. Or plunge over rapids in a raft or whitewater kayak on the Upper Green or Chattooga.

Want your furry family members to accompany you outdoors? No worries! Greenville and local parks have plenty of pet-friendly trails and spaces, plus these dog parks in town.

Finally, Greenville is within three of the Upstate’s beautiful lakes: Lake Hartwell, Kiawah, and Jocastee. Spend a day boating on the massive blue waters framed by the Upstate hills.
