The Best Dog Parks in Greenville, SC

Greenvillians love their dogs; from Mastiffs to Maltese, the residents of this city love nothing more than their canine family members. Just by walking through the streets, you’ll see that pets (dogs in particular) are pampered as much as possible. No matter where you are, you’ll find dogs eating gourmet treats in restaurants, strolling through shops with their owners, or getting exercise along the various parks located here.

This brings us to our topic at hand; the outdoor spaces located in Greenville, SC are numerous, and it can be difficult for someone new to find the most suitable dog park for their beloved dog. But you’re in luck — we happen to know the Best Dog Parks in Greenville, South Carolina. So read on below to find out where you can bring your pup for some fun and play.

Conestee Dog Park

Located at 840 Mauldin Road, Greenville, Conestee Dog Park makes up part of the much bigger Conestee Park recreational complex. This complex includes playgrounds, five baseball fields, plenty of parking, and is right next to the Conestee Nature Preserve, which offers miles of boardwalks and trails for walking your pooch off-leash.

Built through a partnership with the City and County of Greenville, Conestee Dog Park is separated into two areas; a spacious 14,000 square foot area for small dogs and a large dog run spanning more than 30,000 square feet. Both areas include naturalized areas, double-gated entry, shade shelters, benches, rounded fence corners, and potable running water.

The shelters provided are ADA accessible, while the surface areas are mulched and pet waste stations made available throughout the park. Officially opened in October 2014, Conestee Dog Park was designed by the City of Greenville. Furthermore, the city provides it with additional funds for construction and ongoing maintenance, making it one of the most beautiful parks in the area.

Pavilion Dog Park

Just 11 minutes by drive, The Pavillion Dog Park in Taylors is another beautiful park found near Greenville. It has two areas for dogs to have fun and play in, where smaller dogs are separated from the big boys and girls. One area is suitable for dogs weighing less than 25 pounds, while the other area is best for dogs over 25 pounds, with amenities such as a water station, picnic tables, benches, and dog play features.

This dog park is only part of the larger Pavilion Recreation Complex, which includes athletic fields, an ice skating rink, tennis courts, a community garden, a playground, and more. All areas throughout the park provide pets and their owners with ample space and are well-maintained. Among the top features that make this park so great to visit are the numerous trees that provide plenty of shade, which is especially nice on hot summer days.

Pelham Mill Dog Park

Pelham Mill Dog Park sits inside a park that was once the home to the first textile mill in Greenville County and is located just outside the city limits of Greenville. Today, this area is considered a historic site; the mill’s history was preserved through the dam’s construction, where an overlook lets visitors see its remains along the Enoree River. Today, the dog park itself offers two separate areas for big dogs and smaller dogs.

As usual, you’ll find that dogs under 25 pounds are kept separately from those over this weight. Inside, you’ll find park amenities such as dog play features, benches to sit on, a water station, and sand run exclusively for the big dog area. The area is full of grass and is well-maintained to ensure that all visitors and their pets have a great time.

While some trees provide shade, there aren’t enough to keep you cool during hot summer days, so this may not be the best place to visit when it’s hot out. The park is regularly visited by residents of the area, so you can be sure that your pooch will find someone to play with.

As such, there are many guidelines and regulations that must be observed whenever you’re inside these parks socializing with other owners and their pets. While every park may have its own set of rules that differ slightly, these are a collection of guides that you’ll commonly see in all parks.

  • You are responsible for the damages and injuries that your dog may cause.
  • Dogs that are aggressive, sick, in-heat, without current vaccinations, or too young for a rabies vaccination aren’t allowed.
  • Keep your pup on a leash until it safely enters the park, and place it back on a leash before you exit.
  • Pick up your pet’s poop immediately, and don’t let the excrement stay on the ground long.
  • Keep an eye on your dog at all times, and practice voice control to avoid potentially dangerous situations.
  • An adult should supervise children at all times.
  • Should you sense a problem, proactively place a leash on your dog.
  • Don’t allow your pet to dig holes, and fill any holes they may create immediately.
  • Immediately report an attack or bite to the proper authorities or the park office.
  • Keep food away from any enclosure, as dogs can become aggressive or protective when in front of food.
  • Access to dog parks may be restricted for special events; notice will be posted if this is the case.
