Johns Island School Information

The Charleston School District maintains the schools for Johns’s Island students. Currently, there are five public schools serving more than 2,200 students. Based on the statewide rankings, these schools are rated in the top 50 percent compared to other South Carolina public schools.

There are three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school listed as the top schools for 2020. Angel Oak Elementary School, Devon Forest Elementary School, and Mt. Zion Elementary School handle grades PK through 5.

Haut Gap Middle School serves students in grades 5 through 8. St. Johns High School takes care of students grades 9 through 12. Currently, St. Johns students are maintaining a 65-69 percent proficiency in math and a reading proficiency rating of 60-64 percent putting the school in the 20 percent.

Private schools are also available for John’s Island students. These include the Charleston Collegiate School, Live Oak Little School, Palmetto Montessori School, and Rural Mission M H S St. James.
