Top 9 Cleveland Neighborhoods to Live

West Park

West Park is a great place to live for several reasons. First, the neighborhood actually breaks into four distinct neighborhoods, making it home to various people, from young families to retirees. This makes for a lively and vibrant community.

One distinct neighborhood is Kamm’s Corners, where Irish roots are everywhere. There are authentic pubs, rugby, and hobby shops, all with Celtic influences. It has a popular St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

The other West Park neighborhoods include Riverside, Jefferson, and Bellaire-Puritas. These communities were originally independent towns but were annexed into Cleveland in the mid-1900s.

West Park is dotted with green space, parks, and tree-lined streets. It still has a suburban feel thanks to its roots as separate towns. Residents have plenty of restaurants and retail options nearby, making it easy to find what you need. In addition, the schools in the area are some of the best in Cleveland.

You’ll find a diverse range of housing styles and designs in terms of real estate. Some real estate dates back to the 1920s with bungalow homes, while other options are more contemporary. In March 2022, there were 192 homes for sale with a median list price of $129,000. Pricing ranged from $18,000-$500,000.

Hunting Valley

Once the home to Native Americans, followed by French fur traders, the Village of Hunting Valley has been developed with preserving it’s natural beauty in mind. The landscape has rolling hills and steep river gorges. The uniqueness attracted many of Cleveland’s early prominent families, who chose the area to develop country estates.

Today, the area is known for its beautiful homes and sprawling estates. Hunting Valley is home to several parks, nature trails, bridle paths, and polo fields.

The schools in the area are also excellent and some of Cleveland’s top-rated, making it a great place to raise a family.

Hunting Valley should be at the top of your list if you’re looking for a luxurious and picturesque place to call home. Homes prices are on the higher end. There were 11 homes for sale in March 2022, with an asking price from $725,000 to $3.2 million.


Buckeye-Shaker is a great choice for those who want to be close to downtown Cleveland. It’s a compact place to live and bounded by Shaker Heights. The neighborhood has around 11,500 residents broken into two sub-neighborhoods, one around Shaker Square and the other called the Old Buckeye neighborhood.

Shaker Square is the second-oldest planned shopping district in the US. Its roots date to 1929. Today it is on the National Register of Historic Places and remains a premier dining destination in the city. In addition, Larchmere Boulevard is a renowned antique district.

You will find many historic multi-family and single-family properties in this area. In March 2022, there were 41 homes for sale with a median list price of $127,000. Home prices range from $20,000-$750,000.

Ohio City

Ohio City residents are located across the Cuyahoga River from downtown. The neighborhood has been the target of an active revitalization effort. Over 250 local businesses have opened in Ohio City, with at least 60 since 2019.

The district is highly walkable, rated second in Cleveland, with only downtown surpassing it. Many of Cleveland’s attractions are within walking distance. It has a collection of public, private, and charter schools. The thriving Market District is home to some of the city’s best restaurants and bars.

Ohio City offers a range of modern and historic housing. The area is experiencing a lot of multi-family development, but you can find single-family options. Home prices are on the higher end for Cleveland, but this is to be expected given the amenities and location. The March 2022 median list price was $259,500, with 55 homes for sale. The prices ranged from $49,000-$849,900.


Downtown Cleveland is the perfect choice for those who want to be in the heart of the action. Cleveland has an extensive residential city center that makes working, living, and playing in an urban environment easier. 

Downtown has plenty of restaurants and retail options, all within a highly walkable area. Residents live near Cleveland’s attractions like Voinovich Park, Lake Erie, and Fieldhouse Stadium.

Many of the housing options are high-rise condominiums and apartments.

Home prices are on the higher end, but this is to be expected given the amenities and location. March 2022 had 29 homes for sale with a median list price of $369,000. The home prices range from $117,900 to $1.9 million.


Tremont is one of Cleveland’s older neighborhoods, with a long history dating back to the early 1800s. Today, the neighborhood is recognized for its award-winning restaurants, vibrant art scene, boutique businesses, beautiful churches, and exciting events that bring people from all over Ohio and even outside of the state. 

Tremont is a great choice for those who want to be close to downtown Cleveland but not live in a dense urban center. The accessible Towpath Trail connects Tremont residents to downtown, the urban village, and other communities along the Cuyahoga River.

The neighborhood is home to some of the city’s best restaurants and bars. Local retailers include eclectic boutiques and art galleries. Through the Towpath Trail and sidewalks, it’s possible to walk or bike to Cleveland’s cultural attractions. 

Home prices are on the higher end. In March 2022, 47 homes were for sale with a median list price of $412,500. Housing prices range from $88,500 to $1.5 million.


Midtown is a dynamic neighborhood for those who want to be close to downtown Cleveland, located between Downtown and University Circle. 

Over 18,000 people work in Midtown, while a lucky 2,000 call it home. Its individual neighborhoods include AsiaTown, Hough, Central, and Fairfax. These diverse neighborhoods have a long history. For instance, AsiaTown has long been a cultural and entertainment destination, with popular Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Korean restaurants. The historic Dunham Tavern and restored League Park baseball field are in Hough.

In Midtown, world-class hospitals sit beside legacy manufacturers; find historic concert halls next to top architectural firms. The Agora Theater, Masonic Auditorium, and Children’s Museum are in Midtown. The neighborhood has plenty of restaurants and retail options, and plans call for expanding the green infrastructure.

Plans call for more revitalization in the area’s real estate. New residential housing is under construction to accommodate the talent driving the area’s economy. Only one home was for sale in Midtown and March 2022– a condo for $169,900.

University Circle

University Circle is billed to tourists as “Ohio’s Most Spectacular Square Mile.” That’s because it is home to several world-famous museums, universities, nationally recognized hospitals, and more things to do. The name comes from its proximity to Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Art.

The residents of University Circle are within walking distance of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Clinic, and other attractions. Its urban location is well-connected with public transportation options.

You don’t have to be a visitor to University Circle. Residential options include townhomes and charming single-family homes. March 2022 reported 42 homes for sale with a median list price of $469,00. Housing prices ranged from $60,000 to $1.2 million.


Prefer a waterfront lifestyle? Look to Edgewater. It’s known best for Edgewater Beach, part of the Cleveland Metroparks. The sidewalk-lined streets make it easy to get around to the nearby vintage shops, parks, and dining options.

Living close to the lakefront, Edgewater mixes vintage homes with newer construction. Home prices are on the higher end, but this is to be expected given its lake access. In March 2022, it had 25 homes for sale with a median list price of $280,000. Homes range from $30,000 to $6.5 million.
