Are You Taking Enough Action?

Introduction

Are you a new real estate agent trying to get your career off the ground? Is your business running or is it running you? Do you feel like you’re stuck in neutral mode and just going by?

You’ve probably heard of the expression “success is a journey, not a destination.” It’s true, but it can be hard to keep on track sometimes, especially if you get stuck in a mindset that says, “if only I could get the right person to buy this house, then I will be successful!” The truth is that this kind of thinking rarely works because our brains are wired to seek out what feels familiar until you wind up in an endless cycle of being in the safe zone and never getting anywhere.

In this eighteenth episode of The Process Podcast, Ray Copeland from Palms Realty talks about how to get over the hump when you are struggling to get leads, how to figure out what actions to take and when, and how to maintain consistent daily success to take your career to the next level.

Get ready to step up your game and go beyond your comfort zone!

Get to know Ray Copeland

Ray Copeland specializes in residential real estate and takes on the role of being Palms Realty’s lead office agent in the New Bern area. He is married to Laura Lynn and has three beautiful children–two boys and one girl. He recently just got his real estate license last August 2021 but has already proven himself as a responsible team leader.

Before getting into real estate, Ray worked in call center management in North Carolina for seven years, and this has helped him jumpstart his career in the industry. His previous job taught him the skills that helped him easily transition into real estate; thus, being more comfortable with taking and handling calls from clients.

Overcome the shiny object syndrome

One of the biggest problems that new real estate agents face is the shiny object syndrome in which some agents start initiatives based on ideas without thoroughly evaluating the long-term objectives, viability, and sustainability of the projects which results in nothing being finished i.e. getting distracted with new online courses.

Nevertheless, to be productive, you need to set realistic goals and break large projects into incremental assignments. Keep in mind that the best way to succeed is by setting small goals and achieving them. You are going to have many different opportunities that come in your direction throughout the month or week and it’s important to focus on achieving one thing at a time instead of spreading yourself across multiple objectives.

For example, if you’re a brand new agent and you don’t have enough funds to generate your consistent lead flow, then you can start looking out for real estate teams that are out there and what they have to offer. Because there are some bad real estate teams, and there are some good real estate teams. And you need to actually sit down and interview them while they also interview you. Ask them good questions and see what they can offer. If you think they can generate consistent lead flow and provide the proper tools for you to follow up with these leads, then you’ve already taken the first few steps to your success.

Suffice to say, in order to overcome the shiny object syndrome, you should be mindful of your true intentions and identify what truly drives you in pursuing your goal of being an agent, then ask yourself if the steps you are taking are aligned with those reasons. That will help you avoid wasting time on the wrong things. Before falling into the trap of spending too much time online just reading and collecting information, try to work towards becoming an authority in your niche–gather your data, put on your business owner hat and take action!

Get out of your comfort zone

If you want to create big, leveraged growth in your real estate career, you’re going to need to do things that you’ve never done before: take greater risks, dig deep into your network and find ways to expand your reach. You need to go out of your comfort zone and do things differently to set yourself apart from other agents.

The most effective way to get ahead in business is to take action. You have to make yourself do it, even when you’re terrified of making a mistake or not knowing the “right” thing to do. When you’re ready to take the next step in your career, make sure that you’ve utilized every available opportunity; from utilizing online platforms to attending conferences, taking advantage of mentorship programs, and connecting with others in similar industries and positions, it’s important to stay on top of the trends to increase your exposure and find great career opportunities. Of course, there are times when things don’t work out, but that’s just part of the learning process.

You can’t control the results of your actions in business, but you can always control what action you take. Consistency is one of the most important components when it comes to growing a business, so pick a plan and stick to it. And when you’re ready to try something new, go for it! Just make sure you have a plan in place first.

Make your move

Success doesn’t come magically. Success comes from consistent action on the things you want to accomplish. Take a moment and step back. Find a way to get started today, and you’ll be amazed at what can happen when you stop stalling and start moving forward.

The most successful people in the world aren’t those who wait around for things to happen or for the perfect plan to fall into their lap. The most successful people are those who do the little things day in and day out, even when they seem insignificant, that will eventually lead them to greatness. They push forward and take as many small steps as possible in the right direction, and over time, they end up accomplishing amazing things. So what’s your answer? Are you taking enough action?
